Beef Ampalaya

This Filipino recipe will surely make you grow and glow! High protein (beef) and high in nutrients (ampalaya) dish that is easy to cook.

Ingredients for 3:

  • 1/2 kg. ground beef
  • 2 medium-sized ampalaya 
  • 3 gloves garlic, 1 onion
  • 3 medium tomatoes
  • 2 green chilis
  • 2-3 tbsp. cooking oil
  • 2 tbsp. patis
  • black pepper & salt

If you like the ampalaya to be moderately bitter, soak it in a bowl of water and salt, then rinse it before cooking. Another way is not to slice it very thin. But well, we like ampalaya for its unique bitter flavor. The same pleasant bitterness in other greens such as the arugula or rúcula as it is called here in Spain. Ampalaya being a super food gives you another reason to savor it!

Serve with rice. Kainan na!
